The iPhone Shazam application is famous for its ability to discover the name and artist of music tracks you hear on the radio. How many times have you listened to a great song on the radio, TV or film soundtrack and been infuriated with yourself because you can’t identify it. The Shazam app is for those moments. All you do is launch the Shazam app and hold it near the speaker for 30 seconds. It listens and analyses the track and tells you who is singing it and what it is called. Shazam's database contains audio fingerprints for nearly 5 million songs, so there is a good chance of getting a positive identification.

It then has links to help you buy that music track and download it to your iPhone. Once you've captured a song in Shazam, you can launch iTunes directly from that tagged song and buy the song immediately. It needs a good internet connection to perform this piece of magic. It sometimes does not work inside a building. If you do not have a good signal you can still capture the music sample and get it analysed when the signal is strong enough.

The Shazam iPhone application will also recommend similar tracks you might like to enhance your music collection and knowledge. You can use Shazam to read album and track reviews. You will also find artists biographies, discographies and song lyrics. Shazam also allows you to share your Tags with friends on Twitter and Facebook.
